You’re right and wrong to some degree, a straight would have done one thing most likely, which is commit him to losing more money but you’re right he had nothing to get to help him win the hand, of course.
even getting a straight would have done nothing, he had a full house after the turn card, Nines over Six’s,
not just a three of a kind… he was beat before the last card was even done, there was nothing that could have saved him.

he tried to bluff his way out of the hand by committing just under $500,000, and he had nothing. He was probably waiting on a 7 to have a straight, but with the cards on the table, he wasn’t going to beat a 3 of a kind until the river (last card). So betting so much so early was the dumb bluff.

Dude you may play poker well you just do not know the poker “vocabulary” . The nuts is the hand which at that particular time is unbeatable. If quads are available full house will never be “The nuts”. I know there is little chance of it but it’s the definition of the thing… live with it.
it’s amazing how you read the book and didn’t understand it. Vahedi wasn’t outplayed . he made his move which works for him more than half of the time. He has to take advantage of his table image , he had no other option with his style of play. Nobody showed streght and he can play any two cards. It was the right option for him to bluff. On the other hand farha did exactly the same thing. Took advantage of his table image .

Yeah I saw a vid where Negreanu said he flopped the nuts. He was right. He had 9/10 and the flop came up QJ8. he then had the nuts. unfortunately, the other guy had pocket 8s and the board paired (paired the 8, no less) giving the other guy the undisputed nuts.
Anyone else expecting an all-in bluff on the river? I don’t think it was the world’s worst bluff anyway, the flop was unlikely to hit anyone, he had a gutshot and he thought it was worth taking a shot at it.
